Snowmaggedon

Last weekend we got 34 inches of snow.  It took 2 days to shovel the driveway, and the snow is packed over my head in places where we dumped the excess to clear a path.  The dogs love it—spending hours tunneling through the snow, “swimming” in the parts over their heads.  Thankfully, they are light enough not to sink all the way to the ground—although it was a nasty surprise when I walked outside on Sunday to play with them and fell another 18 inches through the path they had carved.

Bill is gone for the week to teach a class on disaster management.  I found it highly ironic that this particular class would go on despite government warnings to STAY AT HOME.  Instead, he had to trudge up to a campus where 21 of 25 people had cancelled to spend the next 4 days teaching the intrepid few how to respond more effectively to disasters.  While getting another 12-16 inches of snow on Wednesday.  How’s that for good disaster planning.

I’m at home with the puppies, holding down the fort.  Of course by “holding down the fort” I mean huddling in my office with the space heater going full blast.  The dishes are piled high, the garbage is not at the curb, the laundry is not done.  I wish I could blame a power outage, like the thousands in our metropolitan area, instead of my own laziness.  But damn it’s cold, and I’d rather be on the couch with the puppies acting as my humane fur coats than loading the dishwasher.

The video below shows the puppies enjoying the snow.  I encourage you to watch at least until the 1:01 mark where I fall unceremoniously through the crust of snow and am almost pounced upon by Gracie.
