MIA
So...it's been a while since I've written. Having been properly chastened by several good friends over the last couple of weeks, I thought it was probably time. Plus, Maya--my satanic puppy--is locked up in her crate and Mr. MMB is at work for a couple of hours, so I have the house to myself.
I have no coherent narrative to present. Instead I will simply regurgitate the events of the last few weeks to get you up to speed. Shall we proceed in a thematic way, dear reader? I think we shall.
Pets
Maya has hit five months old and is driving me to distraction. She spends an inordinate amount of time barking (at the cats, at me, at the cats again) and has recently picked up the habit of flinging herself around the living room in a manner reminiscent of demon-possessed pigs being driven into a pool of water.* Today, I thought she had gotten her hysterical rampage completed, and so was caught unawares when she jumped straight onto my face (I was reclining on the couch--it being 8 a.m. on a Sunday) and (accidentally, I hope) scraped my face with her claws before prancing away. There is an approximate 2-inch gash under my right eye, which is now half-swollen shut. And hence the reason Maya is back in her crate.
Mr. MMB
We've both been home for the last couple of weeks, which is nice because I was beginning to feel like I was in a long-distance relationship with my cohabitant. That respite is coming to a close, and over the next 28 days we will only be in the same town for 3 of them. His trip to California, my trip to New York, his other trip to California, his trip to Yemen, my trip to Mexico--the timing could not be worse. Mostly because of the single parenthood issues associated with a small black puppy.
Looking ahead, there are big changes on the horizon. Here are three options we are currently mulling:
1. We can move to Hawaii. Mr. MMB's job wants him to transfer out to their Honolulu office in January/February, and we're seriously considering it.
2. We can move to San Diego. If we don't want to go all the way out to Hawaii (for example, it might not be so great for the Big Idea), we can move to San Diego instead, where Mr. MMB can do most of the work from there and just travel out to Hawaii about once a month. A nice option--I enjoyed living in San Diego between college and grad school and the rest of my family would love an excuse to move westward.
3. We can stay here and buy a bigger house. While Mr. MMB's place is quite satisfactory, the merging of our lives and potential future growth is making our townhome on the lake feel a bit pinched. We've looked at a couple other places with a realtor, and I think we've decided that if we don't move to Hawaii or San Diego, that we'll buy a bigger place in our current neighborhood. There is one house (less than a block away) that I have my heart set on.
Of course, our travel schedules for the next month basically mean that all big decision-making is on hold until the end of August. Until then, I'm doing a lot of internet searches on local properties and "fun things to do in Hawaii".
Other Randomness
July 18 was my four-year Bloggiversary. My 24-inch computer screen has decided to act up, and I just dug out the receipt from Best Buy and realized that the 1-year warranty is up TOMORROW. Mr. MMB makes a mean pad thai, and I'm going to be reduced to cheese sandwiches while he's gone.
* If you saw her behavior, you would completely agree that there is clearly some nefarious spirit at work here.
