Where Are My Peeps?

People, I need some feedback. Where have all the comments gone? Aside from Mr. Bastish blushing about "hallway talk", it's like an echo chamber in here.

To make it easier, here are 10 statements/questions that beg for an opinion. Choose one and leave a comment. If we all work together, we can save the world--or at least make me happy for an hour. And frankly, I need that hour desperately. So chip in, you can comment anonymously if you want.

1. Hilary Clinton will not run on the 2008 ticket, claiming that she "can do more good as a Senator from the great state of New York." Instead, Omaba and Biden will emerge as the leading contenders for the Democratic nomination.

2. Peanut butter and honey sandwiches are infinitely superior to peanut butter and jelly.

3. Besides Write Again Soon (of course), the best blog out there is El Guapo in DC.

4. Cats are infinitely superior pets to dogs--if only for the reason that cats never sniff the crotch of strangers who come to visit.

5. If I decide to take a part-time job, what would be my best bet? Starbucks would feed my addiction, as would Barnes and Noble--but neither would be something I'd like to add to my resume. "Big Idea President" and "Barista" don't belong together in the same year.

6. Of the following 50 Things to Do Before I Die, I am the most unlikely to accomplish:

-- Get a Ph.D.
-- Write a novel
-- Hold a public office
-- Run a 5-K

7. Between Martha and Rufus Wainwright, Martha is the vastly underappreciated one.

8. True or false - by the end of 2007, the Big Idea will be turning a profit.

9. Given a month to visit anyplace in the world (with cost as no expense), people should pick something challenging and drastically different than their normal lives, rather than just a place by the beach.

10. Did anyone actually choose to stop reading when I said "readers beware--read on at your own risk"? Did anyone *not* click the link to Ms. NYC Rouge's blog (the one describing my weekend adventures) because they didn't want to be tainted with smut?

Comments

2. Unquestionably.
4. Wrong.
6. Hold a public office (See 10).
9. A place by the beach IS drastically different than most people's daily lives.

2. In Rwanda last summer. I ate cheese, butter and honey sandwiches because that's what was available. And you know what? It's pretty good. I haven't eaten one since, but I would.
4. I miss having a cat.
5. Don't take a part-time job. You need all your energies to make # 8 come true. If you take a part time job, not only will you hate your boss, you'll resent it.
8. I vote true!!!
9. I think everyone should take the month of August off and explore this theory.

10. I couldn't click fast enough.

2. I have to agree, honey is a better way to go -- unless you have some of my homemade jam on hand.

3. Hands down!
4. I have to vote for dogs, though cats fart less.

6. I second a previous poster and say you won't hold public office.

7. Martha is certainly the underappreciated one, but I find her work inconsistant, so I prefer Rufus.

9. I don't see why you can't have both at the same time.

10. I read the host blog before seeing your link, but I certainly WOULD have clicked it if I had seen it first.

Posted by: La at June 30, 2006 01:02 PM

4. I prefer dogs, if for no other reason than that my crotch appreciates the unconditional attention.

6. Write a novel. You'll definitely hold an office, although it might be an unpaid shadow position in a township of 20 (without internet access).

  • 2. Throw in some bananas and you have yourself a nice treat! And if its local honey eaten early in the season you can help alleviate your allergy symptoms. And do you know which European country makes fantastic peanut butter and apparently loves it as much as us? The Netherlands. Something to do with their Indonesian connection.

  • 3. No, if you haven't read http://galleryoftheabsurd.com you really should. Ms. Maryment especially would love it. I also appreciate http://francisstrand.blogspot.com/ but that is probably just me.

  • 4. Yes, who wouldn't prefer creatures that tend to be snobby and vomitous? Is that how you spell vomitous? Well, at least they are less work. I do like cats that are more like dogs (Heska).

  • 5. You should become a part time flight attendant! All the travel perks! All the networking on the long haul flights. All the "friends and family" passes to generously hand out.

  • 6. Mr. Maryment was right on target with this one.

  • 8. True!

  • 10. Why would anyone not click? And like La, I read it on the host blog before given the chance to click anyway.

Nobody else has touched number 1, so I'll toss in my two cents.

    1. Hillary and Biden will both run for the Democratic nomination in 2008. I see them both losing the nomination (a shame, in Biden's case) to a Southern governor. My favorite in that category is Phil Bredesen of Tennessee.

Obama still needs to get more experience in the Senate and in becoming known to the American people overall, as he's not even through his first Senate term. If he ran in 2008, before finishing his first term, people would see him as another John Edwards: too impatient to put in the time before reaching for the brass ring and too inexperienced to run the country.

    1. Let's not underestimate the rising profile of Mark Warner in the Democratic Party. He may do well in the primaries or he may be a good running mate for whoever gets the nomination.

First thing I thought was that you will never hold office - for the same reason your other readers mentioned. That is the first thing I thought (when I clicked on the link - even though I am conservative in comparison to you) that I hope you have no ambitions to be a politician. I also thought you better distance yourself from Ms. Leading By Learning (for her sake).

As for the rest, peanut butter and hiny is great. But you have to leave it sit for a whily to make it all crunchy 'n stuff.

Dogs pee more than birds poop, and cats are incompatible with birds, so I vote for cockatiels.

Part time job - I would be a waiter again in a minute. Of all the jobs I have had it is the one I had the most "fun" at (although it didn't do much for making me feel like I have achieved anything). If you find the right place to work, and have fun co-workers, and a fun atmosphere (bars - not 5 star types places) it can be great and *great* money.

If you start working on getting the projects for the big project done on time, instead of posting to your (or my) blog, I would guess you can make a profit.

With a month to visit anyplace in the world, I think people should spend the month visiting someplace nearby, using the time to really et to *know* about what makes it the way it is.

And on that final note - I am off to the other side of the world to spend my two months of "If I can go anywhere".

Who-hoo! For some reason, my email notification got turned off and I thought that NO ONE had commented on this entry. I was feeling quite sorry for myself, and not a little bitter.

But you like me, you really like me!

(Incidentally, do you all REALLY think this blog would keep me from holding public office? For one thing, I don't flaunt my actual personal information. And it's not like I'm smoking crack, which apparently isn't even that much of a problem--assuming I'm aiming no higher than D.C. City Council...)

    Jen,

Penut Butter Jam Sandwiches are superior to martha, and mrs. clinton, and i don't think I clicked for honey, or smut, but feel that in all likeliness my spelling and your writting passion could easily achieve success of the 'big idea' which I have just made even bigger. thank you

Alas after trying to comment on this post many times and receiving error after error, I have given up being witty. Just know you missed some very entertaining responses....

    1. Biden Pres/Obama VP, winning team? Pretty sure Hilary is not going to happen.

    2. Definitely. Especially when made with Blekinge Honung.

    3. Haven't read El Guapo, though "Pink is the New Blog" definitely keeps me interested.

    4. I like them both, though I'd be more likely to get a dog, as I think they would be more useful in times of barbarism.

    5. No part-time job. "The Big Idea" needs nourishment, and no one can expect to be anywhere (unless truly, fantastically lucky) with a new biz until they have put at least 5 years of good hard work into it. Keep pushing!

    6. Holding public office - especially if you keep guest-writing on Ms. NYC Rouge's blog

    7. Since I've never heard of Martha, I'll go with her.

    8. True. If you don't get a part-time job and keep your overhead low.

    9. A person who could spend a full month just lounging on a beach (other than surfers or marine biologists) is someone I likely would not understand.

    10. Seriously?

p.s. Hope all is well with your dad (I'm commenting in mid-July...)
